This page explains what the Motivation Facts website collects when you read a guide, send us a message or sign up for new guides by email, why it is collected, who else handles it, and how you can ask us to see, correct or delete it.
The short version
- Reading a guide does not require an account, and there are no comments or member logins.
- If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you type.
- If you sign up for new guides by email or request a worksheet download, we receive your email address and, if you add it, your first name.
- The site stores your color theme choice in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) load only if you press Accept in the cookie banner. You can change your choice any time with Cookie Settings at the bottom of every page, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals.
- We do not sell your information.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold through the contact form.
Information you give us
The contact form asks for your first and last name, your email address, a topic and your message. We use these to read your message and, where it needs one, to reply. Please keep health details, account numbers and other sensitive information out of the message box; the form is for questions about the site, corrections and collaboration ideas.
The email signup form asks for your email address and an optional first name. We use them to send new guides and occasional updates about Motivation Facts. Every email will include a way to stop receiving them, and you can also ask through the contact form.
When you request a worksheet download, such as the goal planner, we receive your email address and, if you add it, your first name, and we add you to the same email list. The download opens on the next page.
All of these forms are processed by the company that hosts this website, which stores the submissions for us as part of running the forms.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the site's host keeps ordinary server logs when pages are requested, such as the time of the request, the page asked for and technical details about the browser and connection. These logs are used to run and protect the site.
The site saves two settings in your browser's local storage: whether you chose the light, dark or system color theme, and your cookie choice. Neither is sent to us.
Cookies and analytics
When you first visit, a cookie banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you press Accept, no analytics or tracking code loads. If you accept, two tools load:
- Google Analytics 4 counts visits and shows which pages and guides are read, roughly where visitors come from, and what kind of device they use. IP addresses are anonymized, and Google's advertising features are switched off.
- Microsoft Clarity shows how people use a page, such as where they scroll and click, so we can fix layouts that are hard to read. Text you type into forms is masked.
Both tools set cookies in your browser and send usage data to Google and Microsoft, which process it under their own privacy terms. We use this information only in summary form to improve the site. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not combine it with what you send through our forms.
You can change your choice at any time with Cookie Settings at the bottom of every page. If you decline or withdraw consent, the tools stop loading on your next page. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal and load no analytics. Clearing your browser's site data also resets your choice, and the banner will ask again.
How we use information
We use what you send to answer messages, fix mistakes you point out, send the emails you signed up for, and keep the site secure. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising. It reaches the service providers that run parts of the site, such as the website host that processes form submissions, Google and Microsoft for analytics if you accept analytics cookies, and, once it is in use, an email delivery service. We may also share information when the law requires it or to protect the site and its readers from fraud and abuse.
Retention
We keep contact messages for as long as we need them to answer you and handle any follow-up. We keep your email signup until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We may keep some records longer where the law, security or fraud prevention requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Send the request through the contact form and say what you would like done. We may ask you to confirm that the request is yours, and we will not ask for more identification than we need. Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you further rights, and we will handle requests in line with the law that applies to you.
Children
Motivation Facts is written for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Guides link to studies, public-health pages and other sources. Those websites have their own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the site's practices change, for example before we add any new analytics or tracking tool, and change the date at the top.
